Donald Elbert  Lyerla
Donald Elbert Lyerla of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Leland and Myrtle (Sisk) Lyerla on January 15, 1930 in Alto Pass, Illinois. He left from this life on Friday, June 9, 2017 at St. Mary’s Health Center in Clayton, Missouri at the age of 87 years.

Donald was united in marriage to Wonetta Elizabeth Radford on October 14, 1950 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. That same year, he joined the United States Army and honorably served during the Korean War.

Donald retired in 1992 from Scott Lee Heating and Cooling. He enjoyed listening to music his entire life. He loved to play darts, washers, pool and corn hole with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved wood working and going antiquing with his wife, daughter and son-in-law.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents Leland and Myrtle (Sisk) Lyerla; infant brother Ralph Lyerla; brother Herschel Lyerla; sisters Frieda Qualls, Bonnie Sheets and Thelma Skaggs.

Those who left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife of 67 years Wonetta Lyerla of Cuba, Missouri; son Donald Lyerla of Bland, Missouri; daughter Rhonda (Carl) VanMeter of Cuba, Missouri; five grandchildren Eric, Aaron, Sara, Jessica and Ian; six great-grandchildren Zeth, Destiny, Jenell, Zandar, Aliya and Aydin; brothers Victor (Glenda) Lyerla of Phenix City, Alabama, Harold (Lawanda) Lyerla of Alto Pass, Illinois, Curtis Lyerla of Cobden, Illinois, Jim (Brenda) Lyerla of Alto Pass, Illinois; sisters Sherry (Rob) Wofford and Shelba Vandergraph of Farmington, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.

In keeping with his wishes, Donald will be cremated.

A time of sharing will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 11:00 a.m. at Mizell Funeral Home.

Inurnment will follow at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri with full military honors.
