Sylvia Decovnick passed away Friday June 16 at the Pines of Poughkeepsie, at the age of 96. She was born March 13, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY. Sylvia was a long time resident of Poughkeepsie and worked many years for the City of Poughkeepsie Housing Department and Urban Renewal. She recently returned to Dutchess County from West Palm Beach, Florida to be close to her family. Sylvia was a progressive thinker, endorsing healthy eating before it was popular. She is survived by her loving daughter Joyce Gally of Lagrangeville; and her children Evan and Marissa. She is also survived by her son Alan and his children Carl and David, nephews Andrew Niesen and Dr. Charles Niesen, and her extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Bernard Decovnick, and her brother and sister in law Mimi and Seymour Niesen. Sylvia was a lifelong member of Temple Beth El. Services will be held on Monday June 19 at 1:30 pm at Temple Beth El, 118 So. Grand Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Burial will follow in the family plot in Temple Beth-El Cemetery.
