Services for Maynard Bernard Human, age 92, will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the First Christian Church, 411 W. Matthews Ave., Stillwater, OK, with Reverend Sondra Ladd officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Strode Funeral Home.
Maynard was born at home on a farm southwest of Stillwater on May 25, 1925, to Joseph Rusaw Human and Alzina May (Fry) Human; he moved from his home in Edmond to his forever home in Heaven on July 2, 2017.
Maynard attended one room country schools for his first eight grades, and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1943. After high school, he assisted his father with dairy farming. Maynard married Wilma Gladys Van Ness on June 24, 1944. Soon after their marriage, he joined the Merchant Marines to assist with the war effort. Maynard was a crew member on the ship which took the new top secret radar equipment to the Philippines, in preparation for an invasion of Japan. He was a proud veteran of World War II.
In January 1947, Maynard was employed at Stillwater’s fourth street power plant, advancing to Assistant Chief Engineer. In 1952 he was hired as Assistant Chief Engineer by Western Farmer’s Electric Cooperative (WFEC) and moved his family to Anadarko. Maynard advanced to Chief Engineer, then he was named Chief of Generation of both the Anadarko and Woodward power plants. WFEC named him Deputy General Manager in 1973 and General Manager in 1975. In this position Maynard was responsible for nineteen power generation systems and over 3000 miles of high voltage electric transmission lines in Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas.
Maynard served with many civic and business organizations, and was a Deacon and Elder at the First Christian Church in Anadarko, and he was later a Deacon for the First Christian Church in Stillwater. Maynard was on the City of Anadarko’s Planning Commission, the Ft. Cobb Reservoir Water Conservancy District Board of Directors, and he was a member of the Anadarko Lions Club, serving in these three organizations for 25 years. Maynard also served as board member and president of the Anadarko Chamber of Commerce, and he was on the board of directors of the Anadarko Bank and Trust Company for 6 years. Maynard was a member and served as president of the National Generation and Transmission Managers Association, he served on the board of the Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives, and he was a member on the Committee on Power for the Southwest. After retiring, Maynard and Wilma moved back to Stillwater in 1984, where Maynard served as a volunteer for Stillwater Mobile Meals, and as the President of the local Good Sam Travel Club. Maynard and Wilma frequently traveled in their RV with fellow Good Sam members, and the couple spent many happy weeks in southwestern Colorado almost every year. They moved to Edmond in 2016 to be near family.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kaye Frampton Murray and her husband Chuck, of Hedgesville, WV and Sue Corbett Watson and her husband Eric, of Edmond, OK; three granddaughters and six great grandchildren: granddaughter Kelley (Frampton) Kubic and her husband Chris, of Charles Town, WV, and great grandson, Jack; granddaughter, Lorelei (Corbett) McGrew and her husband Patrick, of Edmond, OK; great granddaughters, Lauren and Avery; granddaughter, Summer (Corbett) Weaver and her husband Michael, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; great granddaughter, Magdalena Murray and great grandson, Samuel Weaver; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Frampton of Frederick, MD (daughter of Jamie Frampton); nephew, Joe Allen Ledgerwood, other family too numerous to mention, as well as his dedicated caregivers, Lois Boyles, Quisha Cole, Lynet Okemwa, Angela Ray, and Krystal Boyles, who have become family to us.
