Obituary for Robert Walter Hind

Robert Walter Hind
Robert W. Hind was born in Pipestone, Minnesota on April 23, 1937. He died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on June 28, 2017. For a short time, he faced leukemia and then he courageously embraced the end of his life with peace and dignity. His loving wife, Barbara, tenderly cared for him through health and sickness for their fifty-nine years of marriage. Yuki, their beloved dog offered them both constant comfort. Hospice provided compassionate care and endless support for Bob and family through his last days.

Bob was father to Jeffrey Hind of Alaska, Jeanette (Hind) Courtemanche and son-in-law Craig of California, and Sheryl Hind who predeceased her dad. He was full of fun and games, grandfather to Scott Pettigrew of Oregon, Ashley Hind of Alaska, Craig Pettigrew of California and Kailie Hind of Alaska. He had two great-grandchildren, Nora and Abigail of Alaska. He loved all of his “grandpuppies” and “little ones”.

Bob was born to Ida and Harold Hind, who both passed before him; he was brother to Catherine Morgan, Beverly Merk and Carol Dietrich, who predeceased her brother. His nieces and nephews affectionately called him “Crazy Uncle Bob”, a name which he had tagged for himself.

Bob didn’t let an elevator ride end without kissing his bride EVERY SINGLE TIME. Tough guy, yet tender loving man, he adored his “Bon-Bon”. The life they built together carries on, as “ love is forever”.

Bob had many hobbies over his life of eighty years, including photography, CB radios, taxidermy, hunting, fishing, archery, gold mining, jewelry making and computers. He truly was expert and master of all!

His service to country led him to join the family of the United States Air Force; Bob was proud to have served for twenty years as an Air Policeman and OSI agent. His service stations included Korea, two tours in Japan and took him across The United States of America, a few times.

Bob was a Deputy in the Solano County Sheriff’s Department in the seventies and eighties. He told stories of birthing a calf on duty and rounding up calf rustlers in his days. “ 1L69 where are you”?

Two Bears was his favorite nickname, as he was a mountain man who loved to rendezvous. Living in a Bakers tent or teepee for weeks, he shot his muzzleloaders and threw his tomahawk with sharp aim in trailwalks and contests. He fashioned tools, jewelry, buckskin and fur wear.

“Life is a journey; death is a return to the earth” (Vairacchedika 32). Robert W. Hind will be remembered with a military honors service on Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 at the Sacramento National Cemetery at 1p.m. Please place your hand over your heart and respect our country and flag in remembrance of Robert W. Hind and all those who served, as a tribute to his life.
