Evelyn Kerr Massengale (Adams)
Evelyn (“Ker”) Kerr Adams Massengale, 73, of Wyomissing passed away July 14, 2017 in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of Alexander T. Massengale, MD, with whom she celebrated 50 years of marriage this past year.

She was born on March 20, 1944 in Philadelphia and was the daughter of the late Ellwood W. Jr. and Evelyn Kerr Adams.

She graduated in 1962 from Gloucester City School, Gloucester, NJ. In 1965, she graduated from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. She also attended Albright College. During her working career, she was employed by the Montefiore Hospital, NY, The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and for over 30 years, she was the office manager of her husband’s medical practice.

She was a member of the West Lawn United Methodist Church, where she had served as a chairperson of the Staff-Parish committee, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a participant in the annual vacation bible school program. She developed the Safe Haven Lighthouse after school program for children at the church.

She also developed the Raggedy Ann and Andy Visitation Program at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center; a program whose volunteers made over 250,000 visits during the life of the program.

In addition to her husband, Ker is survived by her two children, Christopher E. Massengale of Rehoboth, DE, and Jennifer L., wife of Darrell A. Denny of Wernersville, PA. She has two grandchildren, Alexa Savannah Denny and Jack Andrew Denny who were the loves of her life, as well as several grand-dogs. She is also survived by a sister, Ellyn Wendy Adams of Burr Ridge, IL; and a loving family of five brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Ker loved the Lord, her family, and her community. She was a doting mother and grandmother; she truly lived for her family. She was a mentor to many men and women. One of her greatest gifts was words of encouragement, and many lucky recipients received her thoughtful and personal letters, which often arrived at just the right time. Her life was one of selfless devotion to the people, the causes, and the church she loved.
