NORFOLK – Mrs. Valerie L. Putney, 58, of 2205 County Route 38, passed away Friday morning, July 14, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Valerie was born January 22, 1959 in Potsdam, the daughter of Joyce Howes Bump and the late Floyd L. Bump and was a 1977 graduate of Parishville-Hopkinton High School. She also attended Rochester Dental School from 1981-1982. On June 22, 1991, she married Leonard C. Putney at the Potsdam United Methodist Church.

Valerie worked from 1982 until 1991 for Dr. Glenn Unger, 1991-1998 for Dr. James Ferriter and 1999-2000 for Dr. Stacey Howlett. She later went to work for Drs. Mel Buscemi and Lars Thompson with St. Lawrence Urology from 2000-2007. From 2008 until 2013, she worked for NUMED in Hopkinton. She greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and going to camp. Valerie also enjoyed 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, spending time with her family and vacationing – especially anywhere near the ocean, which she considered her “other sister.” While in high school, Valerie also found a love for cheerleading and volleyball.

Valerie is survived by her husband, Leonard; her son, Richard J. Bump and his wife, Terri of Norfolk; her stepdaughter, Megan Putney and her husband, Shafique Chaudhry; her grandchildren, Jasim and Maryam Chaudhry, and Marcus, Jeremie, and Tyler Keleher; and her great grandchildren, Marguerite and Paisley Keleher. Valerie is also survived by her mother, Joyce of Parishville; her sisters, Donna and Donald Fox of Prattsburgh, Cheryl and Dean Wilson of Parishville, Vickie and Mark Crump of Winthrop; her brothers, Randy and Arlene Bump of Parishville and Floyd and Lois Bump, Jr. of Potsdam; her brother in laws, Howard and Kathy Putney and David and Tracy Putney; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her father, Valerie was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, Dale and Emily Putney; her maternal grandparents, Walter and Helen Howes; her sister-in-law, Stephanie Putney; and brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Nancy Putney Ferency.

Friends may call Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, where funeral services will be held Wednesday 10 AM with Pastor Linda Dunning, officiating. A reception will follow the services at the Norfolk American Legion. Burial will be held on Saturday, July 22 at 10 AM in Fairview Cemetery, Parishville.
