John L. Mattingly Jr., age 78, of Battle Creek, died July 23, 2017 at the Wings of Hope Hospice, of Allegan. John was born July 3, 1939 in Bradfordsville, KY to John and Agnes (Staton) Mattingly Sr.and came to Battle Creek after serving as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne , US Army. John owned and operated the Village Barber Shop in Richland, Michigan for over 50 years. John was dedicated to his business and never missed a day of work. John was a member of the National Field Archery Association and had traveled the country with his family to archery events. He and sons had won several competitions over those years. He loved the out of doors, hunting and fishing. John was married to Sherry Armstrong in 1967, the marriage ended in divorce. John is survived by his sons, Shawn (Christine) Mattingly of Battle Creek, and Shad Mattingly of Springfield, MI, and three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Maryann Wicker and an infant brother, Johnny.
