Vincent Russo, 95, of S. Country Ridge Drive, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Friday morning August 4, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Amsterdam, NY, on January 29, 1922, he was the son of the late John and Angelina Greco Russo. Vince received his education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Vince was a World War II veteran in the United States Navy. He was a first class pharmacist mate in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater from 1942 to 1946. Vince was a partner and owner of Russo’s Grill in Amsterdam. Vince was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post # 701, B.P.O. E Lodge 101 and received a citation from the Montgomery County Republican Committee for 62 years of dedicated service. His wife, Augusta Catena Russo predeceased Vince on October 25, 2016. Vince is survived by his two daughters, Angela Martini (Henry, deceased) of Monroe Township, NJ; and Annette Kinne (Cornelius) of Amsterdam, five grandchildren, Christopher Martini (Chris) of Warren, NJ; Jeffrey Martini (Kimberly) of San Diego, CA; and Michael Martini (Lynnette) of Edison, NJ; Vincent Kinne of Los Angeles, CA; and Andrew Kinne of Ganesvoort, NY; six great grandchildren, Isabella, Zachary, Corrado, Chad, Gabrielle and Gianna Martini, sisters-in-law, Audrey and Lucy Russo, brothers in law and sisters in law, Hon. Gene and Nancy Catena and Cornelio and Geraldine Catena all of Amsterdam. Many nieces, nephews and cousins and friends also survive. Vince was also predeceased by his five brothers, Joseph, Louis, Patsy, Tony and Angelo “Babe” Russo. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly, Monday August 7, at 11:15 at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street Amsterdam, NY 12010. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Mary’s Church from 9:30 to 11:15 prior to the funeral mass. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. The family would like to especially acknowledge his compassionate caregivers, Yolanda Feliciano, Geraldine Hill and Rhonda Garber. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vince’s name can be made to support his nephew, Dr. Tom Catena, at Mother of Mercy Hospital in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan through the African Mission Healthcare Foundation at www.amhf.us, or alternatively, mailed to the African Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 2236, Hicksville, NY 11802. In each instance, please reference that contributions are being made to support Dr. Tom Catena at Mother of Mercy Hospital in the Nuba Mountains.
