Obituary for Gerald E "Jerry" Nethaway

Gerald E. “Jerry” Nethaway, 72, of Wesleyan Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Thursday morning, August 3, 2017 at his residence.

Born in the Town of Florida on January 14, 1945, he was the son of the late Milton E. and Katherine Norman Nethaway.

Jerry received his education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam. Jerry also attended Fulton Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY.

Before his retirement, Jerry was employed at Canteen Vending Corporation in Schenectady, NY.

Jerry was a member of the Army National Guard in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course, where he also was an assistant to the Pro in the pro shop.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Cherie Pelotte Nethaway, whom he married October 5, 1968, one son, David A. Nethaway, and his wife, Jessica Hartley, of Keene, NY; one brother, Willard Nethaway (Audrey) of Schenectady, NY; four sisters, Shirley Emanuel (Joseph) of Amsterdam, Lelia Wilczak (William) of Amsterdam, Jane Marotta of Gloversville, NY and Barbara DeMarco of Meco, NY; many nieces, nephews and cousins; his two beloved cats, Mini and Maxie; his grand dogs and cats, Willa, Esther, Andi, Daniel, Olivia and Foster; and many friends at the Muni.

Jerry was also predeceased by a sister, Micky Majewski and two brothers, Robert and Charles Nethaway.

It was Jerry’s request that no calling hours or funeral services are held at this time. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
