Condolence: WHERE DO WE START? I GUESS ROB SALYER WAS ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS. HE WAS SOO SMART AND PASSIONATE ABOUT EVERYTHING HE DID. SOME QUICK CHILDHOOD MEMORIES, ROB TALKED ABOUT ALL OF HIS DR. VISITS, TO AND FROM THE HOSPITALS, BUT NEVER COMPLAINED. CAVE HUNTING, WALKING AROUND GREY HILL, GETTING INTO TROUBLE, SLEIGH RIDING, PLAYING PING PONG IN HIS HOUSE, WHILE MESSING IT UP FOR HIS MOM , HAVING DAVID GREGORY BY OUR SIDE. PLAYING BASKETBALL ALL THE TIME, HE COULD DOMINATE IF HE WANTED.THE WORLD HAS LOST A FINE PERSON, MY BIGGEST REGRET IS NOT STAYING IN TOUCH.KEVIN AND HALEY YOU HAVE MY DEEPEST SIMPATHY, TO SUM IT UP, ROB WAS A GENIUS.

Condolence: Coach Salyer, it was an honor to know you. You were an asset to the school system. My kids loved you. You were so good to them, and I couldn't have asked for a better roll model for my kids. My heart and thoughts go out to the family during this mournful time.

Condolence: My heartfelt sympathy to the family of Rob Salyer. I had the pleasure of graduating High School with Rob and then we rode "the bus" to SVCC together and then he went on to teach both of my children at Watauga Elementary School. I always enjoyed our talks on the bus to and from college or the car rider line while picking my girls up after school. He had so much passion for everything in life to include Civil war history, music, diet and exercise and to fight the biggest battle of his life- cancer. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: My sympathies and condolences to Rob’s family. I had the pleasure of knowing Rob for more than 20 years. He was a unique and special individual. I participated, with others, for many years in his annual Living History program held at Edmondson Hall, and I know how committed and passionate he was about this special program. I was able to witness over the years Rob’s dedication to restore his historic home of which he was so proud. We discussed history and historical events many times. In 1996, Rob joined a group of Civil War enthusiast of which I was a member, and he traveled with us to Richmond, Virginia where we toured the Museum of the Confederacy in the company of and later had lunch with Colonel J.E.B. Stuart, IV. I have a photo of Rob with Col. Stuart from that day. Only recently learning his book had been published, I was hopeful to gain an autographed copy and personally congratulate him on his achievement. May God grant comfort to the family. The South has lost one of its finest gentlemen.

Condolence: I had the privilege of knowing Mr. Salyers when I worked at Watauga Elementary as an aide and as a substitute. He was always very friendly, and I could tell he loved his job and all the kids he came in contact with. Many prayers to his family for peace. May God bring comfort as only He can.
