Obituary for Melanio Gonzalez

Melanio Gonzalez
Melanio Gonzalez, 91, husband of Iris M. Cajigas Gonzalez, died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Miller Memorial. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Maximo and Celesta (Roman) Gonzalez.
Mr. Gonzalez had resided in Meriden since 1950 and was employed by New Departure Company, Branch of General Motors until his retirement. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and an active member of the Cursillo Movement, Church choir, Lector, past director of the Marriage Encounter Movement and an Assistant Register Voter for the Meriden Democratic Party. Melanio had a great devotion to the Rosary and made many rosaries to be share by many missions, hospital, families and friends abroad. He was an avid Red Sox Fan.
Besides his wife Iris of sixty-six years, he is survived by two sons, Melanio Gonzalez Jr. and Carlos R. Gonzalez and his wife Betsy, all of Meriden, five grandchildren; Jason, Ian, Jeremiah, Joseph and Alina Gonzalez and three great grandchildren, Eric Daniel, Anthony Justin and Jaden Tyler Gonzalez. He was also survived by three sisters; Celia Gonzalez-Guilet, Ana Isabel and Maria Emma Gonzalez all of Puerto Rico and three brothers Hiram and Carlos L Gonzalez of Meriden and Marcelino Gonzalez of P.R. and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Maximo Jr., and Luis Gonzalez
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., Meriden on Wednesday, August 16th from 4 to 7p.m.
