Herbert Richard Smith, 72, husband of Magally Marrero Smith, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017.

Born in Hawkinsville, GA, he was the son of the late William Richard Smith and Alma Holland Smith and brother to the late William Edward Smith. Mr. Smith received his Bachelors in Entomology from the University of Georgia and his Masters in Plant Pathology from Virginia Tech. He worked in the Agricultural Chemical Research Field. Following retirement he worked with his son for 10 years at ServiceMaster.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three children: Kimberly Smith (Brad) Bunting of Watkinsville, Luke (Kimberly) Smith of Bogart, Gary Martinez of Athens and seven grandchildren; Lindsey, Hayes, Miles and Rowe Bunting and Harris, Ashton and Carter Smith.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sparrows Nest or St. Mary’s Hospice House.
