Obituary for Claudette Marie Marshall (Rizk)

NORTH BROOKFIELD- Claudette Rizk Marshall, 67, died Monday August 14, 2017 in UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus after a 5 day stay in the hospital.

She leaves behind her husband Charles Marshall; 2 brothers and 2 sisters John Rizk, Donna Stinson, Peter and Pam Sabatino; a son Scott Marshall of Watertown & his wife Paola Badillo Samperio and 2 beloved granddaughters, Amara and Luna.

Claudette was born in Rutland, Vt. and graduated from Rutland Vt. High Scholl, received an AS degree in Mathematics from Castleton State College and a BS in Anthropology/Archaeology from Bridgewater State College. She was one of the first to take computers into the field when she worked for Harvard ICA. When disability prevented her from field work, she focused on her computer skills and became the first female Microsoft OEM Builder on the East Coast. When she moved to North Brookfield she was active on the Historical Commission and was the eyes and ear of the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO) In Central Massachusetts. She placed multiple buildings on the National Register and was instrumental in the preservation of the flag of the first Black Union regiment in the Civil War. She located the Town papers, which had been believed to have burned, including the town charter, in the Worcester Library among the Adams papers. She was the Chairperson of the North Brookfield Housing Authority Board of Directors for several years until June of this year.

Claudette was a member of the Muslim faith. As an American, she followed the spirit of the Koran, if not the letter. She always gave to others when she could. She will be missed.

At her wish, Claudette will be cremated. Memorial calling hours for Claudette will be held on Wednesday, August 30,2017 from 4-7PM in Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St. North Brookfield.
