    Obituary for Anderson Bannister

    Anderson Bannister
    Anderson Bannister, Jr. was born on February 18, 1965 to the union of Anderson and Marvie Bannister. Anderson was the oldest of three siblings. Anderson had an unconditional love for his family, friends and everyone he came in contact with. He found kindness in everyone that he met and believed that if you showed love to someone you would receive that same love in return. He was known for having a compassionate heart and had a special love and affinity for at-risk, inner-city youth. Anderson devoted his professional career to serving the school systems in Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC, where he was a beloved teacher and school administrator. Anderson was loved by all his students throughout his long teaching career until he retired on July 1, 2011. At the time of his death, Anderson was a resident of Middletown, DE.

    In 1995, Anderson met his life partner, Wilbert Scott, and decided that he would spend the rest of his life with him. Anderson and Wilbert shared a deeply committed relationship for twenty-two years. They also shared a love for family, travel and spending time with friends. Many of their annual vacations and quick weekend trips included visits to the homes of family members and friends, as well as large family trips to beautiful places around the world. No matter where the travels took him, Anderson always reminded everyone to cherish the experience, have fun, and “don’t start no mess!”

    Anderson believed in the power of education. Because of this belief, he sought higher education for himself after high school and graduated from Southern University in New Orleans, LA on May 10, 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. He later obtained a Masters of Education from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta Georgia on July 31, 2006.

    Anderson became ill in 2011. His health conditions started seemingly small, but continued to escalate over time. In the six years that he was sick, Anderson never complained to anyone about his illness, he believed God would heal him and on Friday, August 25, 2017 with Wilbert by his side and his favorite gospel songs playing softly in the background, God did just that. He healed his son and brought him home to glory to be with Him.

    Cherishing his memory are his parents, Anderson and Marvie Bannister, one brother Omar Bannister and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. He also leaves his companion and caregiver for the last 22 years, Wilbert Scott. Anderson was preceded in death by his sister Lisa, who met him that Friday night and ushered him into the presence of the Lord, two grandmothers, Mamie Taylor Travis and Elnora Bannister, and two grandfathers, Floyd Acker Sr., and Alex Bannister Sr.
