Obituary for Nancy Jo Mitchem (Anderson)

Nancy Jo Mitchem (Anderson)
Nancy Jo Anderson Mitchem, 77, of Reedsville, PA, formerly of Roanoke, VA, passed into her eternal life on August 30, 2017, at Valley View Haven, Belleville PA. She had put her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,” therefore, He has taken her to the place He prepared for her, that where He is, she may be also. (John 14)
Born July 7, 1940, in Confluence, PA, Nancy was the daughter of Joseph and Opal (Smith) Anderson. Her husband, Roscoe, whom she married on April 2, 1961, survives.
Preceding her in death were an infant daughter, her parents, and her sister, Marcia Anderson Frazee. Her brother, Jay Anderson, survives.
Also surviving are: three children; Russell Mitchem, Rachel Mitchem Jones (husband David), and Audrey Mitchem Garner (husband Curt): six grandchildren; Kristen and Katelyn Mitchem, Bethany Jones Yoder (husband John) and Nathanael Jones, and Andrew and Paige Garner: and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah James and John Timothy Yoder.
Nancy graduated from Turkeyfoot Valley Area High School, Confluence, PA, in 1958. She’s remembered by her classmates for her fun personality, playing the clarinet in the marching band, and her artistic contributions to the school paper and yearbook. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with many talents such as water color and oil painting, a green thumb which produced beautiful flower gardens, sewing, cooking, singing in the choir and her special gift of hospitality shared with her husband for many of the 56 years of their marriage.
Nancy was employed earlier in her life as a beautician and nursery school teacher. She also devoted over 25 years of service to Hills Department Store, Ames, and Kmart in Roanoke, VA, retiring in 2002. All of her life was focused on helping others.
Nancy will be remembered for her beautiful smile, fun personality, artistic abilities, generosity and hospitality. She will be sadly missed, but we look forward with joy to being reunited with her in heaven one day where she will once again know her family and friends.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for all the wonderful caregivers who served Nancy in the last years of her struggle with dementia, both at home and at her second home, Valley View Haven. Her quality of life, and ours, was greatly enhanced by your compassionate care. Special thanks to AseraCare Hospice for helping to make Nancy comfortable in her final months.
Services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made in Nancy’s memory to the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Barr Funeral Home and Crematory, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, PA 17044.
