Obituary for Irene N. "Hennie" Knox

Irene N. "Hennie" Knox
Irene N. Knox was born on February 12, 1933 to the late Margaret Sample Nock and Jessie Ewell Nock. She transitioned from this life to her heavenly home on September 1, 2017 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

“Hennie,” as she was affectionately called, joined Adams United Methodist church at an early age. Her favorite hymn was “Will the Circle be Unbroken.”

Hennie was educated in Accomack County Public Schools and graduated from Mary N. Smith High School in 1952. She was employed with Accomack County Nursing home for twenty years. She continued to work private duty for seven years until her health began to fail.

Hennie was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Eslie Thomas Knox, Sr. in January 1962. Together they raised seven children.

She enjoyed singing while cooking, listening to the Word Network, and spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed the frequent visits and conversation with her niece, Margie. In her younger days, she loved to sew and would often make her children’s school clothes.

Hennie was preceded in death by her husband, Eslie; a son, Ricky Knox; and five sisters: Lottie, Gertrude, Katie, Winnie and Dorothy.

Left to cherish her memories are four sons, Glenston Knox (Renate) of Barstow, CA, Ronnie Knox (Bettye) of Salisbury, MD, Willie Knox (Chawon) of Moncks Corner, SC, and Kirk Knox (Doris) of Pocomoke, MD; two daughters, Dale Mason (Ollie) of New Church, VA and Mary Knox-Harmon of Modest Town, VA; one sister, Ventrice “Odetta” Roy; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
