Obituary for John Addison Scharff

John Addison Scharff
John Addison Scharff sadly passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the age of 84, at St. Joseph's Hospice at The Views in Comox, BC.
John was born in Holland Manitoba on November 20, 1932. He was predeceased by both his parents, Bill and Marie Scharff, brother-in-law Matt Osudar, and his wife Gwenda of 57 years.

John will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Cheryl (Barry) Foster, sons Bill (Barb), and Bruce (Sonja). John is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Craig (Sheena) , Jodie (Trevor), Mandy, Joshua (Cynthia), Travis (Tegan), Bobbi-JO and, Chad (Tracey), 4 great grandchildren, Tyson, Tiah, Jude, and Brooklyn, sisters Lois Osudar of Brandon Manitoba, and Diane (Keith) Laughland of Duncan BC, as well as many nieces and nephews.

John married his high school sweetheart, Gwenda Higgs on October 3, 1953. Shortly afterwards he then became a funeral director. Scharff's Funeral Home of Holland MB serviced many communities in southern Manitoba where he and his father remained in business for many years. John retired from the funeral business in 1974 when he heard the whispers of the Pacific Ocean calling his name.

They moved to Sidney, B.C. and then to Comox on Vancouver Island. In his later years he loved to golf, and they spent many enjoyable summers at their trailer fishing in Deep Bay. His fondest memories are the many fishing trips spent in Northern Manitoba and on the West Coast of BC. He treasured every moment out in his boat on the water. This was when he was the happiest.
Thank you to his neighbors Lorna and Dave for always keeping "an eye out" and to Jackie for being a lovely companion and friend.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at St. Joseph's Hospice at The View. Your compassionate loving care is truly immeasurable. A special thank you to Dr. Swanson and Dr. Dwadi for your expertise and kindness. Dr. Astrope and Siobhan we will never ever forget you. The love, and the exceptional tender care you gave our father was second to none. We are so grateful for all your help over the four years that Dad was in your care. When we speak of you it is with the utmost respect and admiration.

Our father had a quiet private relationship with his God. He counted his blessings daily and was very grateful for a life that was filled with countless joys. We as a family rejoice in the knowledge that he will now see the face of Jesus and once again be reunited with our mother. Dad we know you will enjoy dancing with Mom on those beautiful streets of gold! We love you and will miss you. Until we meet again!

As per John's request a Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery. Please join us in remembering John by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com
