Obituary for David John Allen

David John Allen
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David John Allen at Seven Oaks Hospital on September 6, 2017. David passed away peacefully with his loving family holding his hands and telling him how much he’s loved.
He is survived by the love of his life, Carol (Johns), his wife of over 60 years. Children: Janet (Les), John (Heather) and Daniel. Grandchildren: Stephanie (Cory), Taylor, Elias and Aiden. Brother-in-law Ed (Kathy) and sister-in-law Mary (Harold). Adopted grandchildren Reece, Trista and Braedon and their mother Chyanne as well as many nieces, nephews and supportive friends.
David was pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Frances Allen; in-laws Elias and Eileen Johns; sister-in-law Lois Spearman and nephew Daniel Tinling.
David was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His family was his world. It was an honour and blessing to have him love, raise and teach us. He was our hero and the person everyone went to for advice. David had the best one liners, never turned down a meal and was the best husband, father and grandfather any of us could have ever asked for. He has given all of us a lifetime of special memories.
David was an officer and a gentleman, respected and admired by all who knew him. He started with the Winnipeg Police Force as a Constable on June 1st, 1955 and retired as a Staff Sergeant on June 6th, 1987. In the 1970s, along with fellow police officer John DeGroot, David was instrumental in starting the Winnipeg Police Child Abuse Unit.

David attended West Kildonan Collegiate and was the first school president. David was a member and president of the counsel of Christ Lutheran Church and sat on the Luther Home Board of Directors for 24 years. He also served on the Condo Board of Parkway Plaza for over six years.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral at 135 Anderson Ave on Friday September 15, 2017 at 3pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Don Engel and Pastor Lynne Hutchison. Cremation has taken place.
The family thanks the helpful home care staff that helped David these past few years and the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital on the fourth floor in unit 11.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
“When tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we are far apart. For every time you think of me, I’m right here inside your heart.”
