Green Brook, NJ – In the early hours of Saturday, September 9, 2017, John S. Pirigyi, age 91, passed away at Robert Wood Johnson at Somerset in Somerville. Born in Perth Amboy to the late Andrew and Mary (Marcey) Pirigyi, John spent most of his years in Middlesex. He lived in Edison from 2003 until his move to Memory Care Living in Green Brook this past July.

John faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after his time as a combat medic in a field hospital during the Battle of Okinawa. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

In the mid 1980’s after many years of dedicated employment to Mack Trucks in Bridgewater, John retired as a Supervisor. He had a love for listening to and singing opera and was an avid collector of model trains. He enjoyed trips to Disney, Atlantic City and Las Vegas and was a big baseball and football fan, especially of the NY Mets and NY Giants. The biggest love he had was for his family and dear friends.

Predeceased by two siblings, Mary Sviderskis and Andrew Pirigyi, John leaves behind his loving brother William Pirigyi of Winter Park, Florida; nephew Albert and his wife Antoinette “Toni” Sviderskis; two great-nieces Adrienne Sviderskis-Carroll and her husband Thomas J. Carroll and Alaina Sviderskis all of Middlesex. He will be missed by four great-great nephews and nieces Thomas, Anthony, Arianna and Ava Marie Sviderskis-Carroll; and by the love of his life Roberta Bertha and her family children Diane Tuchmatulin and her husband John and their son Johnathan and Joseph Bertha and his wife Marsha and their two children Shannon and Joey.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 in the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 beginning 11:30 am. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm followed by Military Honors and Entombment at Lake Nelson Memorial Park in Piscataway.
