Obituary for Calvin Rex Willing

Calvin Rex  Willing
Calvin Rex Willing, 92, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born on February 15, 1925 in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Calvin O. and Evelyn E. Willing.

Rex was a US Navy veteran having served from July 1941 to October 1945. During this wartime he served on the USS Wisconsin in Okinawa as well as the China and Japan Seas.

Rex was an extremely accomplished trumpet player, playing with the US Navy Band and later with several local bands. He was a longtime member of the American Federation of Musicians and a lifetime member of the BPO Elks. He was also a charter member of the Society for the Preservation of Barbershop Singing in America.

Rex spent many years in the wholesale electrical and wholesale plumbing supplies businesses. He was the general manager of the E.D. Supply Co. of Salisbury. In time, he established the Maryland Plumbing Supply Co. of Salisbury. He retired after his successful company was purchased by the Noland Plumbing Company. Mr. Willing would like to thank the many electricians, plumbers, builders and others that he met during his long career.

During his early retirement years, he worked with his son, as Dennis built his new business named the Denco Corporation in Salisbury.

Rex is survived by a daughter, Jackie R. Collins and her husband Byron; a son, Rex C. Willing and his fiancé Sandy Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Mina Willing; four granddaughters, Christina Layton and her husband Mike, Lisa Burgin and her husband Mark, Kim Plyler and her husband Neil and Cheryl Cannon and her husband Jerry; four grandsons, Dennis Willing Jr. and his wife Alexis, Frank Willing and his wife Jenni, Darryl Willing and his wife Beth, Todd Willing and his fiancé Stephanie Clark; fifteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Willing who died on June 28, 2017 and a son, Dennis Edward Willing who died in 2012.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Rev. Wayne Parsons will officiate. Entombment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park.
