Obituary for Hazel Alma Adkins (Byrd)

Hazel Alma Adkins, age 88, Erwin, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Center on Aging and Health. She was a native of Mitchell County, NC but lived most of her life in Unicoi County. Hazel was a daughter of the late David M. and Maude Hughes Byrd. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Adkins was a member of Red Hill Methodist Church.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Adkins on March 23, 2010; one daughter, Madalyn Foster; two grandchildren: Michael Shelton and Teresa Feldman; one sister, Helen Monk; two sons-in-law: Jack Willis and Terry Hensley.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two daughters: Donna Willis and Geraldine Hensley; one brother, David A. Byrd and wife, Jane, all of Erwin; one sister, Davenia Wolf, Weaverville; son-in-law, Pierson Foster, Erwin; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P. M. until the hour of service on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the residence of her granddaughter, Taylor Hensley, 1112 South Buffalo Street, Erwin. Reverend Les Honeycutt will officiate at the 7:00 P. M. funeral service. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be David Foster, Ethan Hensley, Jason Edwards, Chris Willis, Jason Byrd and Tom Bowman. Committal service will be held at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, September 25, 2017 in the Evergreen Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 9:30 A. M. on Monday to go in procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made in memory of Hazel to: Unicoi County Animal Shelter, 185 N. Industrial Drive, Erwin, TN 37650.
