Obituary for Anthony A. Mazzacua

Anthony A.  Mazzacua
Anthony A. Mazzacua, age 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2017.

Anthony was born in Carthage, NY on September 5, 1931 to the late Anthony and Amelia D’Agostino Mazzacua, Italian immigrants. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Syracuse University. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a statistical clerk during the Korean War era from 1951 to 1955. He served at Lowry AFB, Colorado; Thule AFB, Greenland; and Olmsted AFB, PA. On August 5, 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Theresa Schraml at St. Mary’s Church in Rome. He was employed at Rome Lab as a budget officer.

Anthony was a very caring man to his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and other family and friends. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, running, basketball, football, and softball. He also enjoyed watching western movies. Anthony was an active member of St. Paul’s Church.

Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Theresa; three daughters and sons in law, Theresa (Tracy) and John (Jack) Gleason, Pamela and James Culbertson, and Dr. Andrea and Dr. Robert Setlik; a son and daughter in law, Douglas and Flor Mazzacua; nine grandchildren, Alexander, Jonathan, and Henry Gleason, Michelle Culbertson Sisneros and her husband, Paul, David Culbertson, and Rachel, Rebecca, Edith, and William Setlik; a great grandson, Samuel Sisneros; two brothers and five sisters in law, Frank and Jennie Mazzacua, Riccardo and Jane Mazzacua, Mary Jane Mazzacua, Marian Schraml, and Mary Joan Schraml; a brother in law, Ron Ruane; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Eleanor (Frank) Baressi, Catherine Zajac, and Mary (Alex) Mottola; a brother, Joseph Mazzacua; and brothers in law and sisters in law, Bernie Schraml, Barbara Ruane, Fran (Joe) Coluccio, Karl (Barbara) Schraml, and Paul Schraml.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Church, with the Rev. Robert Kelly officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends may call at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, or American Kidney Fund.
