John William McKnelly, age 91 of Louisville, passed away, Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Evergreen Nursing and ReHab in Effingham.

John was born Friday, November 27, 1925 in Bible Grove, Illinois the son of the late Grover McKnelly and the late Verdie (Webster) McKnelly. He was united in marriage on July 31, 1944 in Kentucky to Linda McKinney. She preceded him in death on May 9, 2011.

He was self employed as a farmer and was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bible Grove Christian Church and a member of the Louisville American Legion.

Surviving are son, Donald (Jane) McKnelly of Louisville, IL and sister Joan Peavler of Effingham, IL, seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Ron McKnelly, sister Rosalie Poehler and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted to J.W. Neal Funeral Home of Louisville, where the family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Saturday, October 7, 2017. A celebration of life will follow at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bible Grove Cemetery, Louisville, IL.
