I will always be honored and proud to call him my friend and be forever in his debt for helping me thru my most difficult times with his unerring and most timely humor. You most certainly are loved. Condolence: I fondly remember the late 70's as Don's Timberwolves would battle my Spartans on some fun Friday and Saturday evenings. There were no doubts who the more polished player was as Don's stats made mine look like a soggy gnat. Oh, did I ever poke some good fun his way when he came to the bright side to coach my beloved Spartans! Don was full of humor and passion and he brilliantly used his wit to make a wonderful difference to hundreds of kids. We will all miss you big fellow!

Condolence: Sorry to hear the news about Coach Helvie. When I was coaching boys basketball at White Swan High School, I always enjoyed our battles with Granger. He was a great coach and it was obvious that his players loved playing for him and respected him. We had some real knock-down, drag-out games complete with buzzer-beaters and blow-outs both ways. Beyond the competition (and more importantly), I remember laughing non-stop at all of his funny stories. I'll never forget him painting the image of his team doing a "midnight madness" practice in their underwear-- I believe at some point, school board members walked in as they were planning for the new school. Hilarious. He was SO good for Granger during that era. Really sad to know that he is gone. My condolences to his family.

Condolence: Don you will be missed so much. You're love of life, sense of humor, and just plan big heart will always be remembered. Thank you for giving our kids the math skills that carried them through college and beyond. You were a true giver of knowledge. I'm so glad that I got to spend some time with you before you left us. Your smile is embedded in my brain :) To Don's family I am so sorry for your loss. He loved you deeply.

Condolence: I am so sorry to lose Don's smile and passion for kids learning. Whether he was teaching geometry with Toblerone candy or using Yoda as straight man, he was all about helping kids on their educational journey. His relationships with his students allowed him to teach math in ways that reached them. He worked tirelessly to make sure his pre-calc and calculus kids could receive college credit. Finally, his personal battle with cancer left a legacy of perseverance and good spirits that we will never forget. He is missed.
