Obituary for Sadie Mae Pettit (Johnson)

Sadie Mae Pettit (Johnson)
Sadie Mae Johnson Pettit, the daughter of the late Cecil Lilliston and Mary Magdeline Johnson, was born on August 20, 1945. She departed this life on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Sadie attended the public schools of Accomack County and was a 1964 graduate of Mary N. Smith High School. At an early age, Sadie confessed her life to Christ and joined Metompkin Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Douglas. She left the Eastern Shore for a while, but when she returned to the Shore she rededicated her life under the leadership of Rev. Nowell.

Sadie was married to Edward Pettit and they resided in Baltimore, Maryland for several years. Upon her return to the Shore, she began working at Perdue Farms, where she retired after twenty years of service. Sadie later worked for Head Start in Accomac. She gained many friends in the workforce, young and old, and she will be missed by all who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandmothers, Jessie Mae Johnson and Viola Northan.

Sadie leaves to cherish her memories: her stepdaughter, whom she loved as her own, Mary Grace Kellam (Jeff); one sister, Sheila Lilliston; two brothers, Cecil (Brenda) Lilliston and Warren “Babe Ruth” Northan; sister-in-law, Annie Northan; one aunt, Lenora Johnson; stepmother, Hazel Lilliston; four step-grandchildren, Markeisha Kellam, Katrina Kellam, Anthony Kellam, Jr., and Bra’Nazia Wyche; five step-great, great-grandchildren; special cousins, Milton (Freda) Johnson, Claude (Diana) Johnson, Keith (Cheryl) Johnson, Doris Edwards, Gloria Pettit, Lula (David) Satchell, Joanne (Reginald) Riddick, Terry (Ernest) Dickerson, and Barbara Riley; special friends, Linwood Sturgis, Jackie Crumpler, Geraldine Moorefield, Rosie Savage, Gladys Allen, Thomas Custis, and Claude Dickerson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
