Ashley made everything so easy for my family. My father wanted a Veteran's service & they had packages that were already put together. Ashley brought everything to his house and my father pre paid for his funeral last year. Honestly I'm happy she helped him. He passed away a few weeks ago & it really helped take the pressure and stress off our family. Chris the director coordinated everything with National Cemetery & VFW. This funeral home also helped with our mother's passing several years ago. I really appreciate their help and totally recommend this company.

Let me reflect for a minute. When you first get married you talk about a lot of things. When you get older that focus seems to turn to death and burial...yeah, good times.... In planning for this you want someone professional enough to handle all the nuances but sensitive enough to understand the needs of their clients. Ashley is a true professional. It didn't matter what the question was she would always respond. Whether it was at the office or over email she would always get back to us IMMEDIATELY.
If you need funeral planning I certainly would go seek out Ashley. She is fantastic.

Ashley answered so many of our questions. My husband and I are in our late 60's and 70 and wanted to make our funeral arrangements in advance of illness, memory issues or a life unlike the wonderful one we are living at this time. I did not want to go to the funeral home so she came to our home. She shared lots of good information and planning guides. Like preparing wills, this is a process I had not looked forward to but Ashley made it easy, quick and it is now completed. Hopefully this will also makes things much easier for my children who live in Colorado and New Mexico.
Thank you Ashley for your expertise and graciousness. It is most appreciated.

Five stars is not enough for Ashley and Allen Harden Funeral Home. My husband and I who are still in our early 60's decided it was time for preplanning to be done. We had no clue if we would be sad, emotional, or how we would feel doing this meeting while we're still very healthy. Ashley couldn't have put us more at ease. During the process she thoroughly explained everything and answered all our questions. We had just come from across the street purchasing our plots so it was an interesting day to say the least. As Ashley listened to our wishes and gave some suggestions it turned out to be a rather easy and somewhat relief to just get it done. Ashley was so warm and personable you felt like you were talking to a friend. The facility itself doesn't have the dark, dismal, or deep sad feeling some funeral homes have. It's actually very calming and pretty inside. I highly recommend them!

Obituary for Richard Rollin Macsherry

Mr. Richard Rollin Macsherry died peacefully at home on 10/12/2017 in Mount Dora, FL. at the age of 99.
Dick is survived by his special friend Carol Schneider, three children Stewart (Beth), Richard H. (Debbie), Molly (Darden), four grandchildren, Stew (Mindi), Mellie (Charles), Packer (Mary), and Cappi, five great grandchildren, Braxton, Amella Rose, Marshall, Willa, and Jack. He is predeceased in death by his wife Mary.
Dick was born on June 4, 1918 in Philadelphia, PA. to Richard Macsherry and Dorothy Wilbur Macsherry. He attended Lehigh University until the beginning of the second World War at which time he enlisted in the Sea Bee's, a branch of the US Navy. He served in the South Pacific Theater through the end of the war. He married Mary Alice Hammond on June 24, 1948 at The Ledges in Alexandria Bay. Subsequently, Dick and Mary settled in Watertown, N.Y. and founded Seaway Motor Express, Inc. which, over the next three decades was a prominent intra NY state trucking firm. He and his wife raised three children. His children remember him as a hard working, generous, faithful, community minded father who taught them by example.
As a young man Dick enjoyed golf, tennis, snow skiing, and anything outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also loved rowing his skiff; any excuse to be on a boat of any kind on his beloved St. Lawrence River. In his later years, Dick enjoyed traveling the world 'round. His travels weren't limited to other countries or inland cruises, he also traveled by roller skates as a young boy living in Washington D.C. to the Annuel Easter Egg Hunt at the White House where he met Presidents Hoover and Coolidge. In a later Journey, he had the priviledge of taking First Lady, Pat Nixon on a cruise of the St. Lawrence River. His curiosity was boundless with what was going on around the world. He was a generous, witty, dedicated individual who saw great potential in everyone; so much so, that he invested in their futures through financial gifts and words of wisdom. As a reflection of their love of reading, Dick and Mary built the Macsherry Library as another investment towards minds being stimulated through reading.
The foundation of Dick's life was based on his faith in God and his love of the Episcopal Church. Wherever he lived he became an integral part of the Episcopal community. The Church of St. Lawrence in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Trinity Episcopal Church in Watertown, N.Y. and St.Edward's in Mount Dora, FL. were where he found his inspiration, sanctuary, and opportunities to serve within the respective communities. As part of his service to the communities he contributed to area hospitals and hospices. Among them were The River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Samartian Hospital in Watertown, N.Y., St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., Florida Hospital in Orlando FL., Florida Hospital Waterman in Tavares, FL., and the Hospice of Central NY.; As well as Salvation Army and the United Way of Watertown, N.Y. In addition he contributed to ministries in other parts of the country including Grace House Services in Jackson, MS., The Learning Community in Black Mountain, N.C., Leigh High University in Bethleham, PA., and other community serves.
His friends were countless, having never met a stranger. He was a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, various Rotary and Chamber of Commerse organizations., the Order of Mason's, and US Power Squadron. From his poker buddies at "The Shack" in Watertown to his fishing and hunting buddies from Labrador to Moultrie, GA. Dick shared laughter, swapped stories, shot game birds, and caught many fish. His friendships continued with regular meetings of The Old Geezer Club. Dick will truly have an everlasting and exponential impact on all those he met in his lifetime.
