Obituary for Lionel A. Howard, Jr.

Lionel A. Howard Jr., 87, of the West Point Island section of Lavallette, NJ, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ.
Lionel was born in Dunellen, NJ. He lived in Green Brook, NJ before moving to Lavallette in 1991.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1952 from Rutgers University in Physical Sciences.
Lionel was an Executive Director for Bellcore in Whippany, NJ for many years.
The spirit of public service captured his soul and he served in Green Brook for over 30 years as member of the Board of Education, then as town councilman, as Mayor and on the Zoning and Planning Board. Upon moving to Lavallette, that spirit of public service continued and he served for many years as Chairman of the Lavallette Planning Board. In addition, he was a long time member of the Lavallette Yacht Club, Green Brook Lions Club and Republican Club.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lionel and Mabel, sister, Gloria and daughter, Robin Lynn. Surviving is his loving wife of 65 years, Marilyn (née Burger), two sons; Lionel A. III and his wife, Kathleen of Eagan, Minnesota and Jonathan and his wife, Sandy of Columbus, NJ, two daughters; Dawn Spencer and fiancé, William McKinnon of Lavallette, NJ and Kim Garbarini and her husband, Michael of Monroe, NJ, eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on October 24, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. funeral service at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 NW Central Avenue, Seaside Park, NJ.
