Bill L. Monroe 81 of Franklin, IN. passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017. He was born January 21, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN. to Charlie D. and Mildred Susie (Heacock) Monroe.
He retired from Fairmont Glass/Glass Container in Indianapolis in 1985 after 30 years of service and later worked for Corsi Cabinet in Beech Grove for 14 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Franklin. He enjoyed fishing. He had been previously married to Bernice (Parker) Monroe-Mayer of Indianapolis, and Ginny Hicks Monroe and Nell Tearman Monroe both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children Tamie Monroe Richard (Barry) of Indianapolis, Perry Monroe (Amy) of Beech Grove, Tina Monroe Rush (Carl) of Fairland, LeeAnn Monroe Vick (Butch) of Nineveh, and Shanna Monroe Young (Red) of Sylvester, Georgia, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, siblings Roselee Forey (Ed) of Indianapolis, Ingrid Thayer (Bob) of Indianapolis, Angie Cholewinski (Herman) of Sun City Center, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie D. Monroe and Mildred Susie (Heacock) Monroe, brother Charles “Dillard” Monroe, sister Rosemarie Palmer, brother in law Ronnie Palmer, and granddaughter Rachel R. Mann.
The Reverend Rick Henry will conduct a memorial service Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 10AM at the Wright Chapel at Otterbein Franklin SeniorLife Community 1070 West Jefferson Street Franklin, Indiana 46131 where the family will receive friends from 9AM till service time at the chapel. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday at 1PM at Fairview Cemetery in North Salem, Indiana. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN. is handling the arrangements.
