Obituary for Harry Burnett Payne

CALLANDS,

Harry Burnett Payne, age 71, of 2100 Triangle School Rd. Callands, VA, entered into rest on October 26, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on May 3, 1946, in Danville, the son of the late Silas Andrew Payne Sr. and the late Erma Burnett Payne. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie Nuckols Payne.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He carried mail in the Martinsville area and was a carpenter by trade and hobby. He was a charter member of the Callands Volunteer Fire and Rescue. He sang in the choir, was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, and loved fishing, hunting, farming, baking, and talking with friends and family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Stacie (Scott) Tyree of Lynchburg; a son, Joshua (Penny) Payne of Callands; five grandchildren, Chase, Luke, Tabitha, Jonathan, and Abigail; a great-grandchild, Ava; and one brother, Silas Andrew (Christine) Payne Jr. of Gretna.

Funeral services will be conducted at Scott Funeral Home on Sunday October 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Henry M. Meadows Jr., Rev. Curtis English, and Rev. Haywood Alcorn officiating.

Burial will follow at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm and at other times will be at the residence, 2100 Triangle School Rd. Callands, VA.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, stjude.org, or to the Marion Baptist Church building fund, 2669 Marion Rd. Chatham, VA 24531.
