Obituary for Romeo P Salvadore

SOUTH BARRE- Romeo P. Salvadore- born October 31, 1931, died at his home on Sunday October 29, 2017 hours after his 86th birthday party where he was able to hug, kiss, and say goodbye to his children and grandchildren.

Romeo leaves his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Ann (Howe) Salvadore; 4 sons, Thomas and wife Amy of Barre, Robert and wife Kim of Barre, Daniel and wife Therese of Oakham, Joseph and wife Michele of New Braintree; daughter Susan and her husband Michael Donofrio of Paxton; a sister Liberina Amidio of Athol and 14 grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Anthony, Paul, and Josie and his sisters, Mary Salvadore, Laura Rodzik, Eleanor Rochon, Matilda Kapinto, and Angelina Volpe.

Romeo was born in South Barre, son of the late Ralph and Anne Marie (Marrata) Salvadore. He graduated from Barre High School, St. Anslem College and earned a Master’s degree from UMASS Amherst. Romeo was a lifelong member of St. Thomas A Becket Church in South Barre. He was active in town government and served as a Selectmen and on the Barre Community Improvement Association. Romeo took pride in South Barre and personally maintained the town parks by cutting grass, installing park benches, planting flowers and trees, and placing Christmas decorations. Romeo was an Army Veteran, serving his country from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany. Romeo retired from the Springfield Public schools in 1995 after 34 years as a history teacher and guidance counselor. Romeo enjoyed traveling, working in his woods, maintaining his property, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, playing the organ, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and family parties.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2017 in Pillsbury Funeral Home 96 S.Barre Rd. Barre. The funeral will be held on Friday with a Mass at 10:00AM in St Thomas A‘ Becket Vernon Ave. South Barre. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Barre.

Romeo, dad, or Papa will be loved, remembered, and missed forever by his wife, sons, daughter ,daughters in laws, son in law, grandchildren, family and friends.
