Obituary for Ben Kloesel

After a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, Ben passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his caring wife and children on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

Service: Rosary will be at 1030am followed by Mass Services at 1100am celebrated by Reverend Luke Robertson, T.O.R., on Monday, November 6th at Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1200 South Davis Drive, Arlington, Texas, 76013-2399, 817-274-0643.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please donate in Bernard Edward Kloesel’s name to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA), www.lbda.org/donate.

Ben was the middle child born on January 29, 1934, in Dubina, Texas. When he was two years old his family moved to Baytown, Texas.

Graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1952, Ben joined the Air Force in 1957, stationed at Wiesbaden Air Force Base in Germany where he traveled, exploring Europe. He graduated from University of Houston in 1967.

Honorably discharged from the military, Ben met his future bride Velma Kowis in Baytown, Texas, in March 1961, and married 8 months later on November 18, 1961. Heaven gained another saint a few weeks short of their 56th wedding anniversary. He moved the family to Arlington, Texas, in 1969, where he made friends for life in Knights of Columbus #6269, Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Serra Club, Cub Scouts Pack 15 and Boy Scouts Troop 615 while having a successful business career with LTV, Zale’s, Singer and Fujitsu.

Ben loved music (playing guitar), the outdoors (camping, hiking, canoeing), sports (both playing and watching baseball and golf), traveling the world, and most of all, loved his family, grandchildren and friends. Ben never met a stranger, was a friend to all, sincere, selfless and a genuinely good man. He embodied the Boy Scout Values of trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. He will be missed by so many people.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents Ted and Mary, older brother Ted and younger brother Dennis.

Survivors: Ben is survived by his loving wife Velma, his children Stephen (Mary), Gregory (Jennifer), Christopher (Chris Dean), Matthew, Melissa (Clark) and Jennifer. Grandchildren (Greg & Jennifer) Bernard, Nicholas, Isabella, Juliet; and (Matthew) Bethany, Benjamin, Bryson, Brielle.
