Mrs. Eloise Rankin Scott, 87, of 3633 Hickory Highway, Statesville, passed away at Mapleleaf Heathcare, Statesville, following an extended illness. She was born in Rowan County on February 1, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Albert Alexander Rankin and Margaret Elizabeth Glaspy Rankin. She was married to Colis Scott who died in 1994. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Delois Rankin, a son, James Leroy Scott; three grandchildren, Laney McCoy, Sharday Gaither and Deshaun Witherspoon; and her siblings, David "Bernard" Rankin, Mable Bradshaw, Lettie Dalton, Bettie Hinds, Walter Glaspy, Albert Junior Rankin and Larry Rankin.
She attended Rowan County Schools and prior to retiring worked at Brian Center. She was a member of Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church in Cleveland.
She leaves to celebrate her life four sons, Collis Scott, Larry (Leslie) Scott, John Scott and Gary Scott, all of Statesville; three daughters, Virginia Witherspoon of Cleveland, Joan Smith of Statesville and Tammy Scott of the home; two brothers, Joseph (Clara) Rankin of Statesville and Withrow (Dot) Stockton of New York; three sisters, Margretta Cowan of Advance, Hallie (Richard "Joe") Davidson and Patricia Wellman, both of Statesville; her brother-in-law, James Dalton of Winston-Salem; her sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Rankin of Statesville and Pauline Glaspy of Kannapolis; fourteen grandchildren, Towanda (Channin) Jackson of Cleveland, Belinda (Scott) Henry of Conover, Chad Witherspoon of Cleveland, Lavon (Jenny) Witherspoon of Mooresville, Alisha Scott of Concord, Nikia Scott of Charlotte, Adrienne Studevant of Cleveland, Larry Everhart of Charlotte, Tory Everhart of Cleveland, Nedra Wilson of Austin, Texas, Dwyane (Samatha) Smith, Gary Scott, Jr., Shakara Scott, and Tiomi Scott, all of Statesville; thirty great grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a special caregiver, Evora Glaspy of Statesville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors and dear friends.
