Obituary for Emelia Clarita Abdul

Emelia Clarita Abdul
Emelia Clarita Abdul, aka Affa, was born in Trinidad and Tobago on July 22nd 1929.
She was the daughter of Ruth Span nee Young-Hoi and Joseph Span. She grew up in Princes Town and lived with her cousins who were like her siblings. At the age of 18 years old she married the love of her life Justinus Abdul (deceased). They had four beautiful children, Pamela, Michael, Patrick, and Marcia (Trixy).
Emelia was a dedicated and loving mother and homemaker. She had a talent for sewing and flair for cooking for family and friends.
She was known for driving her yellow Mini, from which one of her nicknames was derived “Minnie Mom” or just plain “Minnie”
During her lifetime, she had the privilege of travelling to many places around the world with her family such as England, France, Cannes, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland.
Emelia and Justinus would spend many summers in Canada and eventually the family immigrated to Toronto Canada in 1985.
Emelia enjoyed this next phase of her life in Canada as she was surrounded by the next generation of her family. She was the proud and loving Grandmother of eight grandchildren, Willard, Abigail, Michael Jr. Melissa, Kelly, Justin, Bradley and Sean.
Emelia was also fortunate enough to see each of her eight great grandchildren grow up. She was Great Grandmother to Alyssa, William, Alex, Aaliyah, Ethan, Prince Michael, Brooklyn, and Cameron and lovingly referred to as “GG” by them. Emelia was very present in their lives and made an impact on each of them.
Emelia leaves behind a simple yet profound legacy…a mother in the truest sense, to so many. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who cared deeply and tirelessly for her family.
She leaves a great void across three generations of family who will sorely miss her kind, gentle and loving ways.
May she now rest in peace….
