Mrs. Alice Marie Hess, age 77, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (November 7, 2017) at her home. Born July 28, 1940 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Martha Street Barton. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Holiness faith. She enjoyed quilting and cooking, but most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hess, and nineteen siblings.
Survivors include six children, Kenneth Edgar Yates of Galax, Virginia, Mary Magdalene Jones, Jerry Lee Yates, Eliza May Wilson, Malissa Gay Yates, and Wanda Annette Wilson all of Honaker; three brothers, Lewis Barton and wife, Ann of Vansant, Jeff Barton of Vansant, and Clarence Barton of Davenport; three sisters, Mae Blevins of Princewick, West Virginia, Betty O’Quinn and husband, Fred of Vansant, and Birtty Ball and husband, Don of Honaker; adopted daughter, Crystal Musick; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Troy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain, Virginia.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at 6:00 PM Thursday at the Honaker Funeral Home, Honaker, Virginia.
