John Eugene Smith, 81, of Whiteland, IN passed away Friday, November 10, 2017 at Franklin Meadows. He was born July 31, 1936 in Indianapolis, IN to Herbert G. Smith and Mary J. (Maloney) Smith. He married Charlene P. (East) Smith, she survives.
He had been an insurance agent for Commonwealth Life Insurance Company for 35 years.
Survivors include his daughter Julie A. Cripps (Jerry) of Greenwood, IN, a son Steve E. Smith (Debbie) of Chesapeake, VA; six grandchildren Austin Cripps (Hanna) of Indianapolis, IN, Nicole Heims (Chris) of Cincinnati, OH, Ryan Smith (Katherine) of Manhattan, NY, Brandon Smith (Gretchen) of Chesapeake, VA, Amanda Smith of Richmond, VA, Brett Smith of Chesapeake, VA; a brother Bernard Smith (Cindy) of Indianapolis, IN; and a sister Patricia Shaw (William) of Whiteland, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Paul, Carl, and Herbert Smith; and sisters Maxine Eggers and Rosie Barnes.
