R.Mack Davis 81, of Boulder died November 10, 2017. He was born in Matador, Texas and grew up in Duncan, Oklahoma, graduating from Duncan High School in 1954. He then attended the University of Oklahoma where he pledged Phi Delta Theta fraternity and later became president. Mack graduated from OU in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration.
After serving for six months in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, he moved to Boulder in 1959 where he co-founded the Regiment Ltd on University Hill. Upon leaving the Regiment, he assisted in the establishment of the entrepreneurship program at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He taught there as an Adjunct Professor in the business school from 1985 until 1994, and was awarded The Golden Apple as outstanding teacher in the business school.
During his time at USC Mack was also associated with the Entrepreneurial Education Foundation, which supported new startups and fast growing companies. In 1994, he started working full time for the foundation, holding classes for entrepreneurs throughout the country. He left there in 2008, but continued to consult entrepreneurs until his retirement.
Mack served as president of the Buff Club and the Boulder Country Club. He was a member of Rotary, and on the boards of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce and Midland Savings. He was an avid fisherman, and also enjoyed golf and bird hunting, He was a lifelong football fan, cheering for the Sooners, Buffs and Trojans.
Mack is survived by his wife of 57 years, Patti of Boulder; daughter, Stephanie Clark and her husband Rich of Boulder; four sons, Andy Davis of Scottsdale, AZ, Dan Davis of Avon, Ben Davis and his wife Lindsey of Littleton, and Doug Davis and his wife Brooke of Denver; six grandchildren, Jack, Josh and Colby Clark, Megan and Lizzie Davis, and Reese Davis. Mack was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Ronald Davis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25th at Boulder Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75213 or The Wild Animal Sanctuary, 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643.
