Obituary for Rita F Toto (Hathaway)

BROOKFIELD- Rita F. Toto, 89, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on November 12,2017. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband John Toto in 1987. She was born in Belmont, MA on September 16, 1928 to the late Tuffield and Annella (Young) Hathaway. She lived a brief time in Jay, NY and grew up in Warren, MA. She then married her husband John Toto and raised her family in Brookfield, MA, a town she loved and considered her home.

She was a loving and devoted mother of four children, Jack Toto and his wife Jane of Harrisburg, PA, Eugene “Gene” Toto of Brookfield, Mark Toto and his wife Beth of Harrisburg, PA and her daughter Angela Jones and husband Andrew of Fort Myers, FL. She was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, John Toto and his wife Desiree and 2 great-grandchildren of Chelmsford, MA, Matt Toto and his wife Emily and 3 great-grandchildren of Denver, NC, Lyndsey Toto Beltran and her husband Dario and 4 great-grandchildren, Mark Anthony Toto and his wife Jennifer and 2 great-grandchildren, Ashley Severage of Denver, Co, Andrew Severage of Dallas, TX and Emerson and Marissa Toto of Southbridge, MA. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she also loved.

Rita enjoyed being a volunteer librarian assistant at Tantasqua Junior High School in 1977-79. She was an avid painter and filled her house with many of her portraits. She enjoyed traveling with her sister, the late Lucille Cummings of Warren, MA. She loved her flower gardens and her home – she was a very kind, gentle, sincere woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, November 18, 2017 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm in Pillsbury Funeral Home 3 West Brookfield Rd. Brookfield. The funeral will follow at 12:30PM in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Brookfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: The Brookfield Ecumenical Food Pantry at the Merrick Public Library or at St. Mary’s Church, in Brookfield.
