Obituary for Pearl Lucille Etter

Pearl Lucille Pepin Etter, former Stillwater resident, passed away at the age of 96 on November 16, 2017 in her daughter’s home in Rockaway Beach, MO. She was surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Walt Engel; granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Bob Aldridge; and great-grandson, Samuel Aldridge. Services will be 10:00 Tuesday November 21, at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater, OK.

She was the daughter of the late Frank Walker Pepin and Hyral Ruthilla Hamlin Pepin. She was a descendent of the early Oklahoma territorial settlers and was proud of her pioneer heritage. She loved to tell family stories about her father clinging to his mother’s precious dish pan as his father raced the horses into the newly opened territory. She talked fondly of her Grandpa Burdick, Grandma Hamlin and Grandma Pepin, and Swim cousins.

Lucille had many hobbies during her life time. She enjoyed needlework and gardening, but she especially loved making rock gardens in their many different homes. In years past, they traveled throughout the 50 states, Canada and Mexico. She would say that “going” was nice but it was even nicer “coming” back home. The first thing she did in each new home was to create a rock garden from the rocks that she and Ed collected from the states they had visited. For many years she and her husband raised exotic fowl from Taiwan, South America, India, China, Egypt, and several other countries. The pheasants, quail, ducks, and chickens were a source of joy for the family and for the many people who visited, including students on school field trips.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Edgar Marion Etter; two brothers, Beverly “Jack” Pepin of Antioch, CA and Utah Swim Pepin of Keaau, Hawaii; one sister, Frances Lee Ramsey of Ardmore, OK.

She is survived by two daughters, Frances Ruthilla Etter Engel (Walt) Clinton, MO, and Emily Elizabeth Etter Kish (Gerald Chase) Surprise, AZ; four grandchildren, Lisa Anne Aldridge (Bob) Clinton, MO, Charles Edwin Engel (Tonya) Green Forest, AR, Carin Imig (John) Peoria, AZ, David Kish (Pascale) Las Vegas, NV; 14 great grandchildren, Joshua Aldridge, Jennifer Shelly (Rian), Jacob Aldridge (Jean), Aaron Aldridge (Ana), Ashley Young (Allen), Joseph Aldridge, Isaac Aldridge, and Samuel Aldridge; Nicholas Engel, Nathan Engel, Andrew Engel, and Averie Engel; Bradley Imig and Brian Imig; and 11 great great-grandchildren; one sister, JoAnne Watkins (James “Bud” Watkins); and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers: Ed Engel, Bob Aldridge, Joshua Aldridge, Joseph Aldridge, and Samuel Aldridge
Honorary Pallbearers: David Kish, Steve Watkins, Lynn Etter, John Imig, and Rick Behl
