Cecilia A. Smith, 88, of Kenosha, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at The Woods of Caledonia Senior Living.
Born in Italy on May 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Deltovo. She was one of nine siblings.
During WWII, Cecilia was displaced from her family, and was a boxcar child. She sought shelter with family in Austria. While living in Austria, Cecilia met Glenn Smith and they married. They later moved to Taiwan, where Cecilia became employed at an orphanage. While working there, she adopted her two daughters. After her divorce, Cecilia moved to Waukegan, IL, where she dedicated her life to raising her daughters alone. After her children became adults, Cecilia moved to the warmth of New Mexico, where she met her soulmate, Gailand Powell. When the two of them realized they needed more help than they could provide to one another, Cecilia moved to Kenosha to be with family.
Cecilia will be remembered for her selfless deeds and her strong work ethic; a true provider. She enjoyed going on walks and watching wrestling matches on television, and was talented at knitting and crocheting.
Surviving Cecilia are her two daughters, Irene (Garrie) Cummings of Kenosha, and Carmela Lutz of San Diego, CA; and her four grandchildren, David and Haley Lutz, and Erin and Jamie Cummings.
Visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Friday, December 1st, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private.
