Obituary for Dr. Edson "Ed" Smith

Dr. Edson "Ed" Smith
SMITH, Dr. Edson Livingstone (1943-2017) –Passed away peacefully on Sunday November 26, 2017 at the Timmins Golden Manor at the age of 74 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Beloved husband for 41 years of Helen (nee Paquette), loving father of Brad (Katherine Orr), Philip (Dana Pecjak) and Katherine McGrath (Kevin). Adoring and doting Papa to Olivia, Lucy and Violet. Survived by his sister Harriett Grace (Doug) and predeceased by his sister Marnie Smith. Predeceased by his parents Harvey and Marion Smith and his in-laws Adelard and Bernadette Paquette. He will be missed by his brothers and sisters in-law, Yvonne Menzies (Tim), Gerald Paquette (Debi), Donald Paquette (late Rose), Bernie Paquette (Edith), Walter Paquette (Daphne) and Marilyn Dufresne (Denis) as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Edson devoted his medical career to the care of elderly, in particular those with dementia. He was well known for his commitment to and compassion for all his patients over the years. He was the Medical Director of the Golden Manor for 31 years and served on the Hospital Board for many years. He had many interests outside the medical field- he loved the outdoors, was an avid photographer, music lover and roving arachnologist. A special thank you to all the angels who work at the Golden Manor on the special care unit, who gave him such wonderful care, and thank you to Dr Julie Auger and Nurse Practitioner Debbie Cooper. For so many years Edson took care of others in their most vulnerable state – the sick, elderly and dying. Despite this, he felt that death was just as much a part of life as the living of it. To all those who have memories of him in the community, it would be wonderful if you could harvest those positive feelings into an act of kindness in his memory. Call an elderly loved one and tell them about your day. Talk about days gone by, and it will delight them to the end of their days and beyond. Remembrance donations to the Golden Manor would be greatly appreciated. There will be no formal service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at
MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME,
CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE,
150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.

And I rest in a quiet realm!
I live alone in my heaven,
In my love and in my song.”
