Condolence: Please accept my most sincere condolences...my thoughts and prayers are with you all...I first worked at the Golden Manor as a nurse's aid for 2 summers when I was a teenager....then had the privilege to work as a Registered Nurse for 3 years at the Golden Manor......thanks to Dr Smith and his recommendations ..... I worked as a community nurse at the VON for over 7 years ...Dr Smith was my mentor and teacher.....I was a grateful student and found him compassionate, dedicated and so hardworking....he is now an angel and has definitely earned his wings

Condolence: Trying all day to think of the words to honour this wonderful man who was the most kind, human, brilliant, doctor, mentor, leader, team player, advocate, curious, fun, strong, energetic, loving Husband and Dad, (who knew he could cook too? - "cowboy stew"), quirky - proudly patched his trusted Volvo with red "bondo" stuff and wanted to drive the crane as we watched the new Manor being built! So much more to tell about his life changing work at the Manor and how gratifying it was to be part if that. For example - we once created a "Mash" unit in the auditorium to treat almost half of all the residents, who rapidly fell victim to what proved to be a major Norwalk viral illness - running IV fluids - saving them from having to be hospitalized - and relieving the local hospital as well. Between Dr Smith and Irene Deslauriers and I, we worked 24 hours a day for 3 days! Together with our wonderful staff we managed not to lose a single resident to that illness. I was heartbroken to learn that he developed dementia but know he would bravely accept his end. Rest in Peace my Dr Smith

Condolence: I had the joy of working with Dr. smith for many years at the Golden Manor. I enjoyed the fact that he treated everyone with respect, whether you worked in housekeeping, maintenance, nursing, dietary, secretary or alongside him as another doctor or health care practitioner. His sense of humour was seen by all and he enjoyed a good joke or reminiscence. He was unfailingly patient, calm and kind to residents and family. My time working at the Manor was definitely made easier and more enjoyable thanks to his help and mentoring. It is one of life’s great ironies that he was afflicted by the very disease he spent most of his career studying and guiding others through. My condolences to his family
