Life Story for Mary T. Becker (Carroll)

Mary was born in Amityville, Long Island on May 7, 1929 to Della Joyce Carroll and John J. Carroll. She grew up in Woodlawn in the Bronx and attended St. Barnabas High School and Fordham University. Mary graduated from Fordham with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and became an Elementary School Teacher at PS 24. In 1954, at the age of 25 she married the love of her life, Robert E. Becker also from the Bronx who predeceased Mary in 2008. They were married 54 years.

Mary was deeply devoted to her husband Bob and her four children. She enjoyed playing piano at parties and sing-a-longs with friends. Montauk was Mary and Bob’s favorite get away where Bob enjoyed fishing while Mary spent many summers living on their boat and eventually in a waterfront apartment. Mary also enjoyed gardening and had become a surrogate Mom to some of her younger beloved friends who will also miss her dearly.

She is survived by her four children the oldest, Christine Foley and her husband Craig of Plano, TX. and their children: Craig Foley II and his wife Jennifer and great grandson Craig III of Carrollton, TX; Caitlin Foley Schumann, with her husband Christopher and great grandchildren Colton and Caden of McKinney, TX; . and Christopher Foley of Plano, TX.; the second oldest Patricia Becker Goor of Brewster and her son Michael Goor of Dallas, TX.; the third daughter Susan Becker of Poughkeepsie, NY and the youngest Robert John Becker and his wife Suzie and grandchildren Jonathan, Adam and Julia of Rochelle Park, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association or The Putnam County Humane Society.
