Bernadette Beata Schampel, 78, passed away at her home in Canon City, Colorado on November 4, 2017. Bernadette was born in Scott City, Kansas on May 27, 1939 to Wendelin J. and Beata (Stremel) Wasinger. Bernadette graduated from St. Mary of the Plains High School in Dodge City, Kansas in 1957 and later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Eastern Utah of in Price, Utah.
Bernadette enjoyed weaving, spinning, and knitting, often teaching and sharing others her knowledge of the fiber arts. On February 24, 1981 she married James H. Schampel in Garden City, Kansas who preceded her in death December, 10, 2016. She was the youngest of eight siblings and was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Bernadette is survived by her son, Brian(Diana) Laskey of Canon City, Colorado; daughter Jennifer (Robert) Kaess of Westcliffe, Colorado; stepson John Schampel of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
