Mr. J. was a kind, cheerful, loving man. He was so very proud of his family -- his girls, their husbands, and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. But in addition, he was my fellow diabetic, and any time I was riding with Mary Ann and had planned poorly (all too often) and needed a glucose test strip or an insulin syringe, he was there to give me one. Strange things can bond you to a person -- not just Mary Ann and how important she is/was to both of us, but this lousy disease. I'll certainly miss him, as will his beloved Laddie and Big Cat. Things will be a little lonely on the Cibolo creek.
