Sylvia M. Minnick, 102, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, passed away early Thursday morning, December 7, 2017, at the Davis Hospice Center.

Mrs. Minnick was born June 27, 1915, in Rose Creek, Minnesota, a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Mabel P. (Damarest) Roeder.

Sylvia lived in Rose Creek until the age of two and she moved with her family to Aurelia, Iowa, until the age of five. The family then moved to Greeley, Colorado, where she completed her education, including two years of teachers college. She taught in a country school before meeting Robert Minnick in church. The two married in 1939. She and Bob moved to Cheyenne in 1949 and lived at the Cheyenne Horticultural Field Station for 16 years before moving in Cheyenne.

When her husband died in 1965, she returned to school to finish her teaching degree. She taught at Baggs Elementary until her retirement in 1997. She then worked as a substitute teacher and traveled extensively.
She was a member of the Frist Christian Church and the Women’s Group since 1949. She was a member of Rebecca’s and the women’s branch of the Odd Fellows Association. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Educational Sorority and was a member of a local bridge club.

Her many interests included traveling throughout the United States including Germany, New Zealand and Australia, camping, hiking and visiting Estes Park where she enjoyed walking around Bear Lake. She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Sylvia is survived by her son, Robert A. Minnick and wife, Lora; grandson, R.J. Minnick and wife, Melanie; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Minnick.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 11, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church. An interment service will follow at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home.
