Obituary for Susan Boone Ridley

Susan Boone Ridley died due to complications from Parkinson’s disease on December 7, 2017 in Powell, Tennessee at the age of 68.
Susan is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Ridley; daughters, Lauren Runion (Joshua Runion) of Greenville, SC, Sharon VanDenBerghe (Nathan VanDenBerghe) of Delta, OH, and Morgan Parker (Dan Parker) of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Alissa, Joe & Olivia VanDenBerghe, and Kaydence Runion; her father Carl Boone of Greenville, SC; brothers, Dan Boone (Chris Boone) of Greenville, SC, and David Boone (Debbie Boone) of Hillsdale, NJ. She is preceded in death by her son, Justin Ridley; her sister, Jennifer Bowman; and her mother, Evelyn Boone.
Susan was born on May 25, 1949, in Atlantic City, NJ, to Carl & Evelyn Boone. She graduated from Bob Jones University in 1971 with a degree in Christian Education. She married John Ridley, a veteran and cinematographer in 1972. She taught English and French at Miracle Hill Children’s Home in Greenville, SC. After a brief stint in Anchorage, AK, John & Susan settled in Oak Ridge, TN where they raised their four children. Susan was a charter member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, founded the children’s choir, and helped to form the church orchestra.
The receiving of friends is scheduled for Sunday, December 10th at 2:00pm at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:30pm. Reverend Bobby McCoy will officiate the ceremony. Interment will be Monday, December 11th at 9:30am at the East Tennessee State Veteran’s Cemetery, off Gov. John Sevier Hwy. All are welcomed to attend and celebrate Susan’s life.
In lieu of flowers a memorial may be sent to Tanja & Kornel Crnkovic (missionaries to Croatia), care of EMU International, 209 Roberts Road, Taylors, SC 29687.
