Obituary for Dominick George "Barry" Frank Sr.

Dominick (Barry) George Frank Sr. passed away on December 7, 2017 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.

He was born on April 13, 1917 in Frankfort, NY, one of six children of Peter and Mary Donna Green Frank.

Barry was also predeceased by four brothers, Joe, George, Phil and Jerry and one sister, Catherine.

Barry’s first marriage was to Agnes M. Rossi, until her death in 1968. His second marriage, to Mary E. Garhartt in 1969, remained his strength and support until his passing. Barry is survived by his wife, Mary Frank; four children, Zoe Anne Frank Shine (Richard), Dominick George Frank Jr. (Patricia), Donna Mary Frank Moore (John) and Daniel Joseph Frank (Kara); and four grandchildren, Alana Z. Shine, Annabel E. Gregg, Bruce D. Gregg and Rory J. Moore; along with many nieces and nephews.

Barry served in the US Navy as a communications officer aboard the U.S.S. Estes in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he worked for several companies including GE; however, Barry is best known for his work in radio broadcasting. In his earlier years, he helped build and operate two Amsterdam stations, WCSS and WAFS, and several stations throughout the Capital District, most notably WEEE/WQBK (Albany), WLFH (Little Falls), and others. He hosted broadcasts from Saratoga Raceway and emceed concerts with stars of country music at Proctor’s Theater and other venues. He served as Assistant Manager and Manager of the Off Track Betting parlor in Amsterdam late in his career.

Barry loved learning, cooking, woodworking, music, electronics, and, most of all, his family. He was a strong family man and always made time to teach and be a role model for his children. He had strong lifetime ties to his brothers, George, Phillip, Jerry, Joseph, his sister, Catherine Venerosa, and their families. We are grateful the Lord allowed his family and friends the opportunity to celebrate Barry’s 100th birthday along with him in April.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning, December 13, 2017 at 10:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; followed at 11:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.

Calling hours are Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 3:30 to 6:00 at the Riley Mortuary.

Memorial contributions in Barry’s name may be made to the American Heart Association, 4 Atrium Drive, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205-1441.
