Mr. Ralph Edward Stilwell, age 77, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Sunday (December 10, 2017) at Specialty Select Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born November 16, 1940 in the Mill Creek section of Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Clarence Edward and Ivellie Newberry Stilwell. A lifelong resident of southwest Virginia, he had moved to Abingdon four years ago from Honaker, Virginia. A retired coal miner, he was a member of the UMWA Local #1760 and attended Woodlawn Hill Baptist Church in Abingdon, Virginia. He enjoyed working and hunting, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Nancy Stilwell and Willard Stilwell.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Peggy Stilwell of the home; one daughter, Shelia Mullins of Abingdon; one grandson, Jonathan Edward Mullins and wife, Jennifer of Wise; great-grandson, Reid Edward Mullins; one sister, Shelvia Miller and husband, Larry of Knoxville; several cousins, extended family and many friends also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia and Specialty Select in Bristol, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
The family will receive friends from 5 PM – 8PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home.
