Testimonials

My family has had to do business with Herr many many times over the last 30 years. I moved out of state nearly a decade ago. Due to the pandemic I am unable to travel home for my uncle's services which was very hard. I called to ask if any virtualization was possible and they made it happen for me. I'm so so appreciative for this; it means the world to me all these miles away.

Our family have always used Herr's Funeral Home... Laura was fantastic - Lyle is always great. Even though Ron Hall is in pre-arranging, he made himself available to be with us during the planning.

Judy Griffith

John Schedmerhorn was our arranger and he did a great job. Thank you all very much for everything you all have done for our family.

Obituary for FC2 Kendall I. Kier

FC2 Kendall I. Kier
Kendall I. Kier

FC2 Kendall I. Kier, 25 years old, formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Monday, December 18th, 2017 in Norfolk, Virginia. Kendall was born February 26, 1992 to father and step mother Lawrence and Linda Kier of Granite City, Illinois and mother and step father Laura and Randy Baker also of Granite City, Illinois. He was survived by his wife, Stephanie Kier of Norfolk, Virginia, two sisters, Amber (and husband Jacob) Byrum and Kaleigh Kier of Granite City, Illinois, and brother Randy Baker Jr. of Wood River, Illinois. He is also survived by grandparents Larry and Kathi Kier of Buena Vista Colorado, Uncle Matt Kier of St. Louis, Missouri, Uncle and Aunt Scott and Cheryl Gardner of Collinsville, Illinois, and two nephews Gavin and Paxton Byrum also of Granite City, Illinois. He was preceded in death by grandparents Bennie “Bud” Hutchins, Patricia Hutchins, and Junie Mae Baker. Kendall graduated from Granite City High School class of 2010. After high school Kendall enlisted in the United States Navy, where he met his wife Stephanie. They were married February 15, 2014. He was deployed twice, with his most recent deployment ending December 15, 2017.
In his short time on this earth, Kendall forged a trail of laughter, selflessness and friendship as long as the universe. Kendall was always the life of the party and lit up any room he entered. Kendall was an avid gamer and spent his free time “pwning newbz.” He liked his music loud and his drinks strong. Kendall was the smartest person he knew and from a young age was aware that he “knew it all.” He was never proven wrong. He always knew what he wanted and went for it. He hated lettuce, and many other vegetables. He was left handed, and had terrible handwriting. He had a dark sense of humor and a sarcastic attitude that made him all the more enjoyable to be around. He was always there for anyone who needed him, regardless of if they were his best friend or his worst enemy. He always went out of his way for anyone he cared about and made sure everyone was taken care of, even if it put him out. He loved with his whole heart, and put his all into everything he did. He was truly a beautiful soul and the people who had the pleasure of knowing him feel extremely lucky to have had the time they did. The memories he left behind will never fill the gap in our hearts but it will help.
Donations may be given to Suicide Prevention and condolences can be expressed via www.herrfuneral.com or via his facebook page.
Friends and family may gather at the Sunset Hill Funeral Home at 50 Fountain Dr. in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Sunday December 31, 2017 with a visitation from 1:00-3:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
