Obituary for Frank Auderset

Long-time resident Frank Auderset joined his beloved wife Shirley in Heaven December 19, 2017, eight days before his 87th birthday.

Frank was born in Gurmels Fribourg, Switzerland Dec. 27, 1930, the youngest of 10 children. He attended Catholic School and in 1954 received his diploma from the International Culinary School of Hospes in Berne Switzerland. He immigrated to Canada in the late 1950’s working as a Chef at Lake Louise. Frank left Canada to pursue a job in Durango, CO. where he met Shirley Elaine Kohler and later married her on December 22, 1971. The couple enjoyed treasure hunting throughout Southwestern Colorado.

Frank worked at the French restaurant, Chez Louis, before fire destroyed it in 1974, which burned many downtown businesses. He was later known as “The Mushroom Man” who supplied wild mushrooms and homemade apple cider to local restaurants. In his spare time, he sold firewood and dog houses which he made from surplus building supplies. Frank frequently started his day at 4 AM whether it was building things, gathering and splitting wood, or plowing snow.

In his later years, Frank loved spending time with his great niece, Cheyanne Ford, teaching her cooking techniques, playing cards, and watching world soccer games.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and wife Shirley of 28 years.

He is survived by niece LaRie (Walker) Ford, her husband John, and daughter Cheyanne of Durango Colorado. Also survived by niece Sharon (Kohler) Reed, her husband Tom, and son Logan Reed of La Center Washington. Frank will also be forever remembered by his Switzerland family and countless friends.

Honoring Frank’s wishes there will be no services. He was placed next to his love, Shirley at Greenmount Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
